Night Swimming

Here, she says, let’s turn on this road

Let’s drive 15 miles under the speed limit

Like those nights we used to drive home in our underwear

All the windows rolled down

Because it was hot and we were soaked

in the endless sweltering length of a late July night

mosquito bites behind our knees

lightning just far enough away
