This is a good time for walks through the park

She prayed to give him at least a moment so that he would not go without knowing how much she had loved him despite all their doubts, and she felt an irresistible longing to begin life with him over again so that they could say what they had left unsaid and do everything right they had done badly in the past.
-Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Today I unbreak my heart
by way of telling the bits and pieces
gently
you really can be whole again.
Today I do not get mad at their being torn,
to scramble with reasons and words to bind
them tight with floss and twine.
only I'd be lying if I said
I didn't want to love again
right now,
to feel soft skinned
to the snow
see everything at once
through love-eyes, throbbing-heart
like that Spain spring day
almost five years ago.

For today I don't mind
if these words are too much, too big, off key,
it is practice at saying what's unsaid
and practice at forgiving.
