Things I did or did not do today:

I did my best pigeon impersonation
I did not create a spreadsheet for the expenses
The water was cool and inviting
I did a clunky nosedive off the bridge
I did not feed the cat, water the plants, or take out the garbage
The air was warm, the sun dried my skin after the swim
Back walkover, front handspring, handstand
Rode my bike with no hands
I think I even charmed the sculptures in marble
But I did not charm Veronica
My acrobatic wiles had no effect on her noble affections
No time to grieve. It is...what day is it?
Rendezvous with big eyes at the full moon rise
I'll have to find my shirt before I hit the city
In the river I heard the names of each of my sisters
I did not record what they were saying
I tore up the article about the death
of the thousandth American soldier in the Iraq war
I heard all their names, and the river rose up to my ears
Until I didn't hear a sound anymore
I did my best catfish
There were a couple men fishing on shore
I'm sure I fooled them
Why else would they have opened their cooler
And cracked a can for me?
We talked about the voices of the river for awhile
About the names and all the things people do to forget them
The things we didn't do today
